Build the budget from the experience

Start with practice feedback into a net, projected course play, or a permanent shared simulator. These tiers are editorial planning allowances, not merchant quotes. You can reuse a compatible device or omit projection, but cannot omit safe ball containment and swing clearance. Equipment-only figures exclude tax, shipping, installation and room work; these depend on your address, room and selected options.

Starter / budget: roughly $1,100–$2,700 before software and room work

Use an observed $499.99 R10 or $599.99 MLM2PRO as the hardware anchor. Add a $300–$800 planning allowance for a suitable net/containment setup and $300–$800 for a full hitting/stance mat; those allowances are estimates, not observed prices for specific merchant products. Reuse a compatible phone/tablet or allow another $0–$500 for a device. Adding those lines yields roughly $1,100–$2,700. It assumes a net and device display, no projector and no dedicated gaming PC. A net must support your ball speed and miss patterns, and radar depth still needs to fit.

Mid-range projected bay: roughly $5,700–$11,900 before software and room work

Use observed launch monitor prices of $1,299 for Mevo Gen2, $1,695 for ST MAX or $1,999 for EYE MINI LITE. A representative Carl's C-Series DIY enclosure with impact screen starts at $999.95; allow $1,000–$2,500 for the selected size and accessories. Allow $500–$1,000 for a mat, and use the observed BenQ AH700ST $2,299 projector as the display anchor. Allow $600–$4,100 for compatible computing, depending on reused hardware or a specialist PC; a merchant-listed SurfThing SG3-5702 is $3,199. These selected lines yield about $5,700–$11,900. A PC is not universally needed, and a package may already include some lines.

Premium bay: roughly $12,000–$25,000-plus before room work

Premium monitor anchors are R50 at $4,999.99, GC3 at $6,999 and overhead EYE XO2 at $10,999. Allow $2,000–$5,000 for screen/enclosure, $800–$1,500 for mat/flooring, $2,300–$4,900 for projection and $1,500–$4,100 for a suitable PC when needed. Arithmetic spans about $11,600–$26,500; rounded planning language reflects the chosen configuration. The observed BenQ LK936ST is $4,899. A self-contained R50/net build can cost less; premium projection and overhead installation can cost more. Installation, cabinetry, structural work or climate control can push the total well beyond equipment alone.

Observed component anchors versus allowances

Observed US-dollar prices on October 3, 2026: Carl's C-Series DIY enclosure with impact screen from $999.95; C-Series Pro enclosure from $3,409.95; BenQ AH700ST projector $2,299; BenQ AK700ST projector $2,899; BenQ LK936ST projector $4,899; SurfThing SG3-5702 computer $3,199. Mat anchors are Carl's 4x9 HotShot at $779.95 and SIGPRO Softy 4x10 at $1,199.99. These are individual equipment listings, not matched configurations. Confirm size, options, exact contents and availability. Never add an enclosure, screen and projector separately if a chosen package already includes them.

Software: distinguish year one from recurring cost

Pick your intended software before buying hardware. Verify the launch monitor connector, operating system, graphics requirements and license tier together. Home Tee Hero on the R10 and R50 requires an active Garmin Golf membership. Rapsodo's observed annual Premium price is $199.99 with auto-renewal; measured spin rate/axis uses RPT balls and Premium features. Uneekor's third-party connector requires Pro or higher. Free practice software does not imply every course simulator is free. GC3 merchant software copy has changed: obtain a written list of the current included licenses, trial periods and renewals for your exact order.

Installation and room preparation

Get separate quotes for mounting, electrical work, cable routing, wall/ceiling protection and any room alteration. Garage cooling/heating, basement moisture control and noise mitigation are room-specific expenses. Add a contingency for the scope you have actually identified rather than claiming a universal installation fee. Measure from the top of the mat and verify screen deflection clearance before buying; replacing an unsuitable component can cost more than the initial saving.

A worksheet that prevents double counting

List each line as included, reused, quoted or estimated: monitor; containment/screen; mat; projector/display; computer/tablet; software first year; renewals; accessories; installation; room work; delivery/tax. Add one-time lines for the initial purchase and show recurring lines separately. Compare three-year cost using the actual renewal terms, not a short free trial. Ask the merchant to identify exclusions in a package and to confirm the complete hardware/software chain in writing.

Where to spend first

Prioritize safe room fit, containment and a comfortable hitting surface. Choose the monitor for the data and software you need, then spend on projection only if course play on a large screen matters to you. If the budget cannot cover a compatible complete setup, stage the purchase around net practice first. The least useful upgrade is a higher-priced sensor that leaves no budget for the room or software required to use it.
