Choose by room and practice goal

For inexpensive practice in a deep room, shortlist the R10 or MLM2PRO. For a short room with little clearance behind the mat, compare beside-ball units such as ST MAX or EYE MINI LITE. For home-to-range use, compare Mevo Gen2, EYE MINI, R50 and GC3. A dedicated shared bay can justify an overhead EYE XO2. These are editorial shortlists, not measured accuracy rankings. The cheapest compatible system usually beats a more expensive monitor that cannot fit your room.

Budget: R10 versus MLM2PRO

The R10 keeps hardware cost low and works with a paired compatible smartphone. Its radar placement can rule it out in shallow basements. The MLM2PRO adds dual-camera/radar feedback and recorded swing views; its Premium and RPT-ball requirements matter if spin analysis is your reason for buying. Compare hardware plus your intended year's software cost, then check phone compatibility. Do not compare the MLM2PRO's full Premium feature list with a subscription-free base setup.

Mid-range: room depth versus a fixed PC bay

Mevo Gen2 suits a golfer who wants one small unit for the range and an indoor bay with sufficient depth. Its included FS Golf practice software has no required subscription, while optional third-party simulation remains a separate purchasing decision. ST MAX sits beside the ball and is our indoor shortlist for reduced rear clearance. EYE MINI LITE is a different proposition: a wired PC practice bay, rather than a battery travel unit. Count a suitable computer and the required connector tier in that decision.

Premium: convenience, mobility or permanent installation

EYE MINI provides battery power, an on-unit display and an iPad practice option. Its current manufacturer page describes outdoor use but also contains an indoor-only line; confirm intended outdoor use before ordering. R50 adds a built-in 10-inch display and Home Tee Hero without a separate phone running that mode, but weighs 9 lb. GC3 is a 5 lb three-camera unit for indoor and outdoor analysis; check its current software offer rather than assuming old bundles still apply. EYE XO2 trades travel convenience for overhead installation in a dedicated bay.

Room and placement requirements

Measure usable space after allowing for the mat, screen deflection, enclosure frame and obstacles. Radar units behind the golfer require rear clearance as well as ball flight. The R10 manual specifies 6–8 feet behind the tee and at least 8 feet from ball to net. FlightScope's current Mevo Gen2 guidance specifies 7–9 feet sensor-to-tee and at least 8 feet of limited ball flight. Those distances are not complete room dimensions: add screen clearance and confirm safe swing height and width. Beside-ball camera units reduce rear sensor clearance, but still need a safe swing and impact area.

Buying criteria that change the shortlist

First, list the measurements you will actually use: carry gapping, spin, club delivery, video or putting. Separate directly measured parameters from derived estimates in the manufacturer's documentation. Second, check whether club stickers or special balls are needed. Third, plan for left- and right-handed users: a beside-ball monitor may need repositioning. Fourth, check setup time, power, connection stability and where the device will sit relative to mishits. Finally, compare the complete purchase and recurring cost instead of a hardware-only headline.

Software and subscriptions

Pick your intended software before buying hardware. Verify the launch monitor connector, operating system, graphics requirements and license tier together. Home Tee Hero on the R10 and R50 requires an active Garmin Golf membership. Rapsodo's observed annual Premium price is $199.99 with auto-renewal; measured spin rate/axis uses RPT balls and Premium features. Uneekor's third-party connector requires Pro or higher. Free practice software does not imply every course simulator is free. GC3 merchant software copy has changed: obtain a written list of the current included licenses, trial periods and renewals for your exact order.

What to confirm before ordering

Send the merchant your room measurements, handedness, computer/tablet model and intended software. Request confirmation of the exact bundle, included accessories and activation requirements. Check current returns, warranty and delivered cost directly; this guide makes no shipping or warranty promise. Start with a safe net and practice display if projection is not essential, and add an enclosure/projector only when that experience is worth the additional cost.
